How to point your registered domain from Namecheap to HostGator

For security purpose, it is a good idea to register your domain & blog (website) on different service. Namecheap provides reliable service for hosting domain at cheap rate. Read this article to understand the procedure to point your registered domain from Namecheap to HostGator.
First open an account at Namecheap & register a domain. Now click on ‘My Account’ present on right side of main menu. A drop down menu will appear. Select ‘Manage Domain’.
On ‘Manage Domain’ screen, you can see list of your registered domains. Click on the domain name whose name server you want to point to HostGator.
Now as you see, you have arrived at Modify Domain Screen. On the left sidebar search for ‘Domain Name Server Setup’ & click it.
On the next page, you can see ‘change existing Domain Name Server information’ section. Select the button named ‘specify custom DNS Server (your own DNS servers)’.
Now you have to find nameserver information from HostGator & fill in the first two or three blank fields. Then click on ‘save change’ button.
Now you are done at Namecheap.
You can find nameserver & other account details from your HostGator welcome email (received after account sign up). Otherwise log in to you cPanel account. On the left side you will see your name server & IP detail.
Next, go to your HostGator cPanel account & log in.
On domain section, click on ‘Add on domain’.
On this page, you have to enter domain name & password.
Enter your domain name like yourdomain.com on new domain name field. The next two fields will be automatically filled up for you.
Now enter a strong password & click on add domain.
On the next page, you will find confirmation stating that the domain has been added.
